A Year of Grace
—Melissa Robbins

Every moment
You hold all things
Together--
Spinning electrons
In unseen atoms

And spinning galaxies
Light years away.

This year
Spinning at times
Into what seemed Pandemonium,

You held life together.

When business dead-ended,
When paychecks stopped,
With car trouble,
Leaking shingles and
Even the final goodbyes

Of death,
This year you
Pressed us
Close to your heart.

Upheaval, change, need-- Tools of your grace;
Grace that
teaches our Souls and
Fills these days in Unexpected ways
With your unending love.

I have never attended a double funeral, packed a lunch five days a week at 5:30 a.m., or run a trencher.

Until this year.

I have never prayed so long and so hard for everyday needs, received so much, or felt God's grace buoy me through months of tumbling waves.

Until this year.

You have done all things well, my God and Father, and I thank you.
