Catch of the Day—God's Habit

The thistle at our back door

It’s God’s habit
    to give beauty for ashes,
    to exchange emptiness for supply,
to heap kindness on the ungrateful and the evil.

It’s His determined purpose
to distill life-giving drink from the sweat of toil,
to wring unknown comforts from pain,
to grind bread-meal from the monotony of daily labor.

It’s His plan
to showcase glory against thick darkness,
to reveal grace to the humble,
    to weave crowns from thorns.

"So we do not lose heart . . .
this light momentary affliction is preparing for us
an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison"

        (II Corinthians 4:16–17).

This may seem strange, but I miss seeing thistles here in NY. I miss the constant reminder that in spite of the fact that it is an obnoxious weed, God made it beautiful. Lovely picture Ella!
